Didn't know this was going to be my last time here,
Didn't realise I will have a huge gap before I come back,
Wasn't informed earlier,
Tours around the world kept me from witnessing the four corners of my house,
I had only been used to carrying my bat,
Didn't realise when my baby went passed my big arms,
I wonder why we couldn't bid not only my workplace but my heart,
A proper farewell for close to two years!
Only before the stadium door was forced shut.
Throughout the lockdown,
Work from home continued,
I worked from closed gyms, restricted workout spots, enclosed areas, and waited for my comeback,
Didn't have a tour to blame,
Didn't want to blame the circumstances,
Finally, I had spent time at home,
Only before the stadium door was forced shut.
Two long years (maybe many more to come),
Empty stadiums hoped for a crowd,
Rusted seats, spoilt flood lights, untamed grass,
All because of the stadium was forced shut.
Waiting for that moment,
These doors have finally welcomed,
Fully vaccinated crowds,
Socially distanced fans,
But for the rest,
Celebrations continued from home,
Didn't realise where time went by,
Finally stepping in to play,
Until of course,
Yet again,
The stadium door might be forced shut.
Ever since we marked our return,
My teammates and I were part of multiple bio-bubbles,
Some made it in,
Some were forced out,
Like the rest of the world,
Fighting to keep their jobs,
Mine was out in the open,
Below the stars, we aimed for the stars,
Yet again I would be forced out had I tested positive.
Many games were halted,
Many tests were taken,
Many bio bubbles breached,
I made it out for a few,
I was made to sit out for the rest,
Just like you,
I wanted to make sure to do the best at my job,
Before any stadium door was forced shut.
