I'm at that stage in life,
Where people technically get too involved in the happenings of my life,
Where people technically tell you all the "positive" things,
Where people tell you to,
Trust the timing of your life,
Believe in yourself,
And a million other things,
Among some that turn into a ted talk you didn't sign up for,
Until the day all the "positivity",
Turns to "toxicity" altogether
If you read my last poem,
My fan girl moment,
You know by now how much of an cricket fan I am,
You know how much the game impacts my life altogether,
And just like that,
I'm back with another "cricket related poem"
The training period before the game begins,
Felt like all the times I anxiously prepared for an entrance exam,
And just like that,
Months later walking onto the field on match day,
Is that day of the examination,
The innings the boys played is a reflection of how well they practiced,
The answers I wrote for the paper I gave,
Is a reflection of how well I studied.
I'm sure you are not that "perfectionist" kind,
Well good thing if you are,
But I would like to admit that I'm not,
Nothing wrong with that,
At least I know when I'm drained out,
I'll probably give up or "take a break"
Cricket doesn't give you that "break" in the middle of your record breaking innings,
Similarly, a wicket will fall,
And the batter walks back to the dugout!
If you really fail at what you do,
You would probably reflect at the mistakes you made,
Prepare harder for a next time...
And just like that,
The next match gives you hope,
Practicing harder in the nets will help a cricketer perform better in the next scheduled game!
Game day strategies can go wrong,
Game day conditions are subject to vary,
Lots of last minute changes are always expected,
Batters can be promoted to play up the order,
Batters might be asked to play a crucial knock in the death overs,
Bowlers subject to wickets, dots or might even give away too many runs!
Similarly, not everything you planned and journaled about is going to happen,
You might have to rely on multiple plans,
Roughly make enough back up plans,
And what if a back up plan becomes your actual plan?
Thankfully, you won't be alone in the rat race,
Humans are programmed in a way that,
Their superpower lies in adapting and adjusting!
That's what we call,
The innings of life!
